Synthesizing Switching Logic to Minimize Long-Run Cost

چکیده
Given a multi-modal dynamical system, optimal switching logic synthesis involves generating the conditions for switching between the system modes such that the resulting hybrid system satisfies a quantitative specification. We formalize and solve the problem of optimal switching logic synthesis for quantitative specifications over long run behavior. Our paper generalizes earlier work on synthesis for safety. We present an approach for specifying quantitative measures using reward and penalty functions, and illustrate its effectiveness using several examples. Each trajectory of the system, and each state of the system, is associated with a cost. Our goal is to synthesize a system that minimizes this cost from each initial state. We present an automated technique to synthesize switching logic for such quantitative measures. Our algorithm works in two steps. For a single initial state, we reduce the synthesis problem to an unconstrained numerical optimization problem which can be solved by any offthe-shelf numerical optimization engines. In the next step, optimal switching condition is learnt as a generalization of the optimal switching states discovered for each initial state. We prove the correctness of our technique and demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach with experimental results.

A Chance Constrained Model for a Two Units Series Critical System Suffering From Continuous Deterioration
In this paper we focus on a continuously deteriorating two units series equipment which its failure can not be measured by cost criterion. For these types of systems avoiding failure during the actual operation of the system is extremely important. In this paper we determine inspection periods and maintenance policy in such a way that failure probability is limited to a pre-specified value and ...
متن کاملNon-Linear Relationships Among Oil Price, Gold Price and Stock Market Returns in Iran: A Multivariate Regime-Switching Approach
In this paper, the effects of oil and gold prices on stock market index are investigated. We use a cointegrated vector autoregressive Markov-switching model to examine the nonlinear properties of these three variables during the period of January 2003 - December 2014. The Markov-switching vector-equilibrium-correction model with three regimes representing "deep recession", "mild recession" and ...
متن کاملThe Impact of Financial Market Fluctuations on Financial Instability in the Iranian Economy: The Wavelet based Markov Switching Model
In this study, the effect of fluctuations of asset markets (exchange rate, oil price and stock market index) on financial instability index over a period of 1388-1397 monthly is investigated by using the Markov Switching model. The wavelet transform model is used to extract exchange rate fluctuations, oil prices and stock market index. The results show that the effect of exchange rate fluctuati...
متن کاملImproving Long Run Marginal Cost based Pricing along with Extended Benefit Factor method for Revenue Reconciliation of Transmission Network in Restructured Power System
Abstract : There are several methods to cover the costs of a transmission system and distribution networks. These methods are divided into either incremental or marginal approaches, which can be either long-term or short-term. The main difference between the incremental and marginal approach is how to calculate the cost of using the network. In the incremental approach, simulation and in the ma...
متن کاملInflation and Cost Push in Iran's Economy
There have been two broad theories of inflation, namely the demand-pull theory of inflation (that is nowadays mainly the monetary theory of inflation) and the cost-push theory of inflation. The mainstream macroeconomics views inflation as a monetary phenomenon in the long run. Iran has experienced double-digit rates of inflation for about four decades. Our main aim is an explanation for the lon...
